There's nothing we love more than trying out the latest nail color trends. One of the best to hit our feeds recently has to be cranberry nails. The shade has been trending, with celebrities like Alix Earle and Selena Gomez giving the color a whirl. And it's safe to say we've been influenced.

Reminiscent of cranberries (as the name would suggest), this fun shade features cool undertones and, often, a cute sparkly twist. It's a universal shade that looks good on just about anyone, and we love the idea of pairing it with gold jewelry like rings and bracelets to make it pop even more. Plus, this hue works for any season of the year.

What They Are

Cranberry nails are exactly what they sound like—a manicure in a color identical to the small fruit. "Cranberry nails are rich, bright, and bold red," Joseph tells Byrdie. Hanna adds: "Cranberry nails are a nail trend inspired by the rich red tones of cranberries. Although the darkness of the color can vary, it generally embodies a cool-toned red shade."

If you're a fan of red nails (who isn't?), trust us when we say you need to give cranberry nails a try. Instead of a deep wine color or even a bright apple red, cranberry nails offer more of a cool undertone that's not only flattering but super fun.

How to Wear Them

Red is always a good option for a nice pop of color, and we love how easy and manageable cranberry nails are. They thrive during the holiday season, but we plan on wearing them year-round. "These usually start to trend around Thanksgiving, which is a perfect time to wear them," says Joseph. "These match any outfit, any skin tone, any shape, and get you ready for the holidays! These were huge this year, as trendsetter Alix Earle posted about getting them."

Hanna agrees it's a classic holiday color: "It's a classic nail color choice for the holiday season," she says, but "It can also be worn throughout winter since the rich red tones align with the warm and cozy vibes of winter. They harmonize effortlessly with various nail shapes, but personally, I find that short to medium-length nails showcase red tones with maximum elegance."

Long story short, you can wear cranberry nails in multiple ways. If you're a short-nail girly, these will work, and if you prefer more of an almond or even coffin shape, they will look amazing, too. Just make sure to keep up with your nail health and regularly use cuticle oil and hand cream to ensure your hands and nails are moisturized and healthy.

How to Get the Look

If you plan on doing your nails at home, pick a color that reminds you of a cranberry, like Orly's Cran-Barely Believe It ($11) or Dior's 853 Rouge Trafalgar ($30). Begin with a base coat, let it dry, then move on to two coats of your color of choice, finishing off with a top coat and some cuticle oil. When picking out your red, Joseph suggests "going with a shade that is less orange and more blue/red toned."

"Cranberry nails involve a straight-forward solid color application," adds Hanna. "As with any monochromatic manicure, meticulous cuticle and skin preparation is crucial for a polished look. Execute thorough prep work before applying your chosen color, and consider using cuticle oil post-manicure to maintain a fresh and clean appearance. Good prep work and glowing skin really elevate the entire look."

All in all, as long as you keep your nails looking nice and healthy, your cranberry manicure will look beautiful—and get you loads of compliments.
