Cranberry Hair Is the Sauciest Color Trend of the Holiday Season

Give thanks for this gorgeous hair.

I've never been one to change my hair so it's a very on-the-nose color for specific holidays throughout the year, but I have the utmost respect for those who do. Blac Chyna, for example, apparently went pumpkin-orange for Halloween this year, and it looked anything but costume-y. And now, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, it seems another seasonally suitable hair color is taking off at salons: cranberry.

Just like cranberry sauce, much of the hair tagged with the #cranberryhair hashtag is deep red that leans almost fuchsia. More purple than a natural-looking auburn, the maroon shade is reminiscent of a few other dark-red trends that have popped up over the last year, like mulled wine and red velvet, but leans even more in the direction of magenta — just like the famous late-November side dish.

"If this doesn’t give you Fall vibes, I don’t know what will," writes Michigan-based colorist Madison Carlisle, sharing a photo of the vivid cranberry bob she gave her client. Massachusetts stylist Rachel Christine included her process in a caption: "For this vibrant and healthy color change, I started with a Color Prepare Malibu Treatment for a clean palate and shampooed out using no conditioner. I dried the hair completely then used different shades of Pravana Wild Orchid with some added cooler tones in the real orange/brassy areas and some magenta for brightness on the lighter ends."

If an all-over cranberry color is a little too intense for your tastes, other colorists are showing how fantastic the hue looks as highlights and even ombré.

Whether you go completely cranberry or incorporate it into your look with balayage, one thing is clear: as perfect as this color is for the holiday season, it will look incredible year-round.
