Crafting with Kids: A DIY handmade Mother’s Day gift every mom and grandma will love
If you’re still looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift – and if you want an idea to keep the kids busy – try this family’s fun crafting project: a handmade jewelry bowl the special moms in your life. Sara Axelbaum and her two children, Hudson, 5, and Denver, 1, show Yahoo Life how to make hand bowls using clay in the new series Crafting with Kids, where families from across the country submit their ideas on how to get crafty at home. Here are the supplies you will need: Paper Marker Scissors Crayola Model Magic Clay Rolling pin X-Acto knife Bowl(s) or any round object Crayola Kids’ Washable Paint Paintbrush Crayola Model Magic Glossy Glaze How to make handmade jewelry bowls for Mother’s Day Trace your kid’s hand on a piece of paper, then cut it out. On a flat surface, roll out the clay until it’s approximately ⅛ - ¼ inch thick, so it’s malleable yet sturdy when shaping it later on. Place the hand cutout on the clay. Have an adult carefully use an X-Acto knife to cut out the handprint. Mold the hand around the bottom of a bowl and let it fully dry overnight. You can use any round object. Get creative – you can even use fruit! Once it is completely dry, decorate the bowl and let it dry. Spread a thin layer of gloss all over the bowl. (Note: Glossing is optional, though it adds a nice sheen for a finishing touch.) Give it to someone you love. SARA AXELBAUM: During this quarantine, we're trying to stay home, keep the kids busy, and, of course, we can't forget about Mother's Day. We're going to make hand bowls for the grandmas and the aunts. Happy Mother's Day.

So we're going to be using some clay, some paint, markers, and paper to trace, and some glaze to make sure that we have these wonderful hand bowls to give to the grandmas and the aunts for this Mother's Day.
HUDSON AXELBAUM: Step one, trace hands. Roll out the clay. Have a grown-up cut out the hands. Mold the hand around a dish or an apple. Let it dry. Peel off carefully. Paint a design! Gloss it! Finally, give it to someone you love! Hope you like our hand bowls. Happy Mother's Day!
