Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox

In the wake of Matthew Perry's untimely death on Oct. 28, his Friends co-stars didn't immediately respond on social media.

More than two weeks after Perry's passing, Courteney Cox broke her silence by taking to Instagram with a touching tribute to her on-screen husband. And her unknown backstory is giving Friends fans all the feels.

"I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day," the actress, who played Monica on the beloved sitcom, wrote on Tuesday, Nov. 14. "When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share."

Cox, who posted a clip of one of her favorite Friends moments, shared the backstory and a behind-the-scenes tidbit.

"Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story," she explained. "In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️"

In the scene, Ross (David Schwimmer) busts into Chandler's (Perry) hotel room, and Chandler casually says, "Morning, Ross."

"I'm getting married—today!" Ross exclaims.

"Yeah, y'are!" Chandler replies from the bed, matching his energy.

Ross then yells, "Woohoo!" and leaves as abruptly as he came.

Suddenly, Monica pops up from underneath the blankets and asks, "You think he knew I was here?"

The live studio audience erupted into applause and cheers, and after a long pause, Cox delivered the funny line Perry told her to say.

"OK, your turn," Monica says, as she and Chandler move to go under the sheets together.

"No, we're kidding!" Cox immediately clarifies, as she and Perry break character and laugh.

Friends fans reacted to Cox's tribute and behind-the-scenes backstory in the comments. One Instagram user wrote, "The way he looks at you towards the end 🥹 still cannot believe it’s real. The one where we all lost a friend ❤️."

Another person commented, "This moment was legendary and I am so happy that Monica and Chandler became a couple. R.I.P Matthew ❤️❤️❤️."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote, "I’m so sorry for our loss 🤍 he’ll forever live on in our memories."
