Courteney Cox Shared the BTS Clips from Her “Gross” Thanksgiving Video

Update, December 8th, 2020: For those of you who watched Courteney Cox's recreation of the infamous turkey head meme, you probably wondered...wait, did Courteney Cox really just stick her head inside a raw turkey? And um, yes. Yes, she did. Cox posted a behind-the-scenes video from that fateful clip and we're as grossed out as she was.

"The (gross) truth!" Cox captioned the BTS video, posted to her Instagram on December 6th. Friends costar Lisa Kudrow commented, "What did you DO?! You are TOUGH AND GENEROUS." We couldn't agree more.

To get her head inside that turkey (we have chills just saying that), Cox had to wrap her head in plastic wrap, drape a towel over her head for some cushioning, rearrange the turkey legs, and then slip the very real raw turkey over her head. Don't try this at home, kids.

"What's not right about it?" Cox asks in the video. "Everything" someone offscreen yells.

Friend Jill Vedder commented, "I Can Not Court!!! Don't you know you are not supposed to put plastic on your face??" To which Cox responded, "I poked a hole so I could breathe but let's face it....nothing could be more disgusting."

Now knowing the lengths Cox went to in order to please the masses, we are forever thankful for her service. She was willing to risk suffocating inside a raw turkey for Friends stans, and for that, Courteney Cox has now reached legend status.

Original Post, November 27th, 2020: Listen, it's not anyone's fault that Courteney Cox has become the unofficial mascot of Thanksgiving. Well, actually, we have the creators of Friends to blame. Cox took to Instagram on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, to jokingly blow off some steam and also give us what we've been begging her for since the late '90s.

"I’m feeling so thankful," Cox said in her video posted to Instagram. "And also, if I get one more goddamn GIF with that turkey on my head dancing like a fucking fool, I’m just gonna snap!"

She continued, "So anyhow, since I’m the symbol of Thanksgiving, here you go, hope it makes you happy." She then donned a very real raw turkey with sunglasses on and did the now-iconic shimmy.

The original GIF is from the 1998 episode of Friends called "The One With All The Thanksgivings" in which Chandler lets a declaration of his love for Monica slip while she tries to cheer him up with, well, the turkey dance. She then, of course, scares the hell out of Joey because, honestly, when you really zoom out and look at the big picture, the turkey head is actually quite terrifying.

The only thing missing from Cox's recreation is the fez hat. But we can let that one slide.

Former Friends costar Lisa Kudrow commented on Cox's post, "You DID THAT!!" and Reese Witherspoon added, "Love you sister!" Both Queer Eye's Tan France and actress Isla Fisher commented "Hahahahahaha."

With the Friends reunion slated to happen in spring of next year, this little throwback is a great teaser of what's to come. Kudos to Cox for putting her head into that raw turkey. We're thankful for her and her commitment to the bit.
