Couple Builds Their Own Wooden Beams for Under $200

If you've ever looked at the ceiling of a luxurious home and wondered how it looks so beautiful, the answer is probably wooden beams. Any sort of exposed material on the ceiling or walls always is such a stunning look, whether it's exposed brick or exposed beams. Something about it adds such an elegant look!

To get these built by a contractor would definitely cost a fortune but thankfully that is not our only option. Instagram user Jessy (@jessyrhome) and her husband decided that they wanted to add these beams to their hallway ceiling but they did not want to spend thousands. Instead, they built their own! And here's exactly how they did it.

While getting this professionally done would've saved these two the time and labor, making the beams DIY style saved them a ton of money and they would not change that for the world.

This couple's plan was to build a few short wooden beams to go across the length of their hallway. To start off, they grabbed some boards from their local hardware store and started sawing their sides to eventually fit together and make beams.

They used their table saw to cut 45 degree angles on each sides of each board, eventually using wood glue and a nail gun to attach them together in sets of three. Basically they're building thin wooden boxes but without the fourth side, which will go on the ceiling itself.

Warning from the viewers and from us as well: if you use a table saw, please make sure to use a tool like a push block to move your board along the saw. Better safe than sorry!

Finally, they could start securing the boards to the ceiling using their drill. This is definitely the most tedious part of the process as you have to hold up each board as you secure it into place. But once they are all set you can either leave them be or, as this couple chose to do, add some dark wood stain to really contrast with the white ceiling and wall paint.

The stain they chose was Weathered Oak and Special Walnut Stain by the brand Minwax and the final look is gorgeous. These beams perfectly match their dark hardwood floors and give so much extra depth to the space.
