I had to study for my NCLEX to officially become a nurse,” she told PEOPLE in 2021. “And he took the time, right before he went on tour, to study with me even though he had no idea what he was doing. And it made me realize — this is someone who really cares about me, who cares about my future even though he's still working on his.”

How did Jimmie Allen meet his wife Alexis Gale?

Allen and Gale are from the same hometown of Milton, Delaware. They met for the first time when Allen’s cousin’s wife introduced them in 2019, although the rising country star was already familiar with Gale thanks to social media. “I did the whole creeper thing. I would swing by her Facebook and like a couple of pictures on there, like a couple of pictures on Instagram, but I wasn't following her yet,” Allen recalled in a PEOPLE interview.

He saw her in real life for the first time at his cousin’s house, when she came down the stairs wearing scrubs. “I had this whole thing put together that I was going to say,” he added. “Smooth Jimmie was ready, but he didn't show up. I ain't say nothing. I just looked at her, said ‘Hi,’ then put my head down and kept talking to my cousin.” He still gave it his “Best Shot” however, as he made sure to give Gale his number before leaving. “He kind of caught me off-guard,” Gale added in the PEOPLE interview. “I was not looking for anything at the moment, and I'm sure he wasn't either.”

"With Alexis being from my hometown, it is like always having a piece of home with me. We had an immediate connection,” Allen told PEOPLE in a separate interview. “It was like we'd always known each other.”

Where did Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale get engaged?

Disney World just might have been the happiest place on earth for Allen and Gale. After only a few months of dating, Allen popped the question in front of the Magic Kingdom castle on June 15, 2019. Gale shared the news on Instagram, sporting sparkly Minnie Mouse ears while showing off her engagement ring. She captioned the sweet shot, “Does this really mean I get to grow old with you?! Yesterday, I said yes to forever…I am beyond words & lucky to be able to call this incredible man my fiancé.”

Allen got his dad’s approval before getting down on one knee, as he told PEOPLE in 2021: “Before my dad died, he was in the hospital. Lex came and she met my dad, and he liked her. He pulled me to the side and said, ‘Listen, you mess up a lot when it comes to relationships. Don't let this one go.’ I said, ‘All right.’”

When did Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale get married?

Following their fairytale engagement, Gale and Allen tied the knot on June 18, 2020, which also happens to be Allen’s birthday, in a private ceremony in Delaware. They kept the news secret for almost a year, before finally sharing wedding photos on Instagram in May 2021. “Being Mr. and Mrs. publicly has been exciting," Gale told PEOPLE in August 2021. "It's a second honeymoon stage for us."

“I never wanted to get married,” Allen added to the outlet, saying he just wanted to “be a dad and do music” before meeting Gale. “The whole husband thing was not something I ever wanted to do. But Alexis changed that. Now, I like it. It gives me some security — she can't just be like, ‘I'm done.’ Divorce is a lot of paperwork!”

Does Jimmie Allen have kids?

Allen and Gale share two daughters: Zara James Allen, 4 months, and Naomi Bettie Allen, 2. Allen also has a 7-year-old son, Aayden Allen, from a previous relationship. "I was broke when I had my son," Allen told PeopleTV in 2020 of his first-born. "I was working three jobs — I was a server, a janitor at an elementary school and I was collecting trash for waste management.” He added that while he was “nervous” when he first found out Aayden’s mom, whose identity isn’t publicly known, was pregnant, his career started to take off soon after. "The crazy thing is after I had my son, that next year, I got a publishing deal,” he continued. “The next year, I got a record deal."

The birth of his second child also coincided with a music milestone, as he found out his song “Make Me Want To” hit No. 1 the same day he and Gale welcomed Naomi. His kids have also inspired his career moves, as Allen wrote a children’s book, My Voice Is a Trumpet, in 2021.

In a 2021 press conference while competing on Dancing With the Stars, Allen opened up about how parenthood has changed him. “The one thing I can say about being a parent, you learn things about yourself,” he said, according to Page Six. The star added that his son is “a replica of me and what I put my parents through” while his first daughter put him in “the whole protection mode.” He continued, “This new baby girl, I’m curious to see what challenges she’ll put in front of me. I’m curious to see what weakness of mine she’s going to highlight.”

One thing the younger Allen definitely has in her future? A trip to Disney World. The country music star told PEOPLE having another girl means “like nine more years of Disney princesses” — something he’s more than ready for. "I'm obsessed with Disney World,” he said. “I've always wanted to go inside a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique."

In April 2023, Allen and Gale announced that they were expecting their third child.

When did Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale split?

In April 2023, Allen and Gale each announced in identical Instagram posts that they were separating — and that they had a third child on the way.

"After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate. As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year."

The statement continued, "Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another. In light of our growing family, we respectfully request privacy during this time."

No reason was shared for the split, but it came just weeks before news that a former manager sued Allen, alleging that he sexually abused her for 18 months. Allen denied the claims, but said he and the accuser did have a consensual sexual relationship.
