Country star Drake White is battling a debilitating brain condition.

The “Makin’ Me Look Good” singer, 35, caused concern after nearly collapsing during a recent concert in Roanoke, Virginia. As it turns out, the incident was just the latest side effect of an even larger health scare for Drake, as he was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in January.

“It was basically stealing blood from my brain,” he told People. “The neurologist told me that I should be thankful it was caught in time, because it could have caused a stroke.”

It started as a headache, which turned into seeing spots and experiencing numbness on his left side. He eventually went to the emergency room with his wife, Alex, and had an MRI and an angiogram. They finally received his results, which, while terrifying, are thankfully treatable. But it would “take a while.”

He’s since undergone a series of procedures—he had one four days before his fated performance—with positive outcomes. He told the outlet they’ve, “knocked out 75% of the mass.”

Though he had previously continued to tour, he’s since decided to take it a little easier. Now, he’s focused on his recovery and sharing how he and Alex found the silver lining in his struggles.

“My attitude is better,” he said. “From the moment I found out, I refused to see it as a problem. Rather, I chose to let it inspire me and help others. I have to think I’ve been going through all of this for a reason.”

He added, “Not to be all sunshine and rainbows, but all of this made me appreciate all that I have and all that is to come.”
