Get ready to have a “purrfectly unicorn-y” time at this summer’s Children’s Art + Literacy Festival (CALF) as the Storybook Capital of America® brings the books of award-winning illustrator and author LeUyen Pham to life! The Abilene Cultural Affairs Council will turn downtown Abilene into a childhood adventure you won’t forget. The festival runs Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16.

CALF brings more than 5,800 people from all over Texas and states across America. The picture book artist on exhibit each summer at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL) in downtown Abilene is the inspiration for our festival.

About LeUyen Pham:

LeUyen Pham (pronounced “Lay-Win Fam”) was born in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City). Her family left in the final days of the Vietnam War and settled in Southern California. She attended the prestigious ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and then worked for DreamWorks’ Feature Animation Division.

She illustrated the Vampirina Ballerina picture book series that inspired the Disney Junior animated TV series. LeUyen and Shannon Hale co-created the best-selling picture book series Itty-Bitty Kitty-Corn. Her book Bear Came Along by author Richard T. Morris received a Caldecott Honor.
