Could These Tires Work For Mountain Bikes?

In much of the northern part of the country, trails get blanketed with snow and ice in the winter. Icy trails provide a terrible grip for rubber tires.

A couple of moto riders may have solved this issue. Watch a moto rider carve around on an icy pond below.

In this video, a couple of moto riders get sendy on a Minnesota lake. They can absolutely lay it over.

Technically metal studs used on these dirt bike tires are a thing in fat biking. However, this technology has not spread to normal-sized tires. It is hard to ride as well with a wide bottom bracket and tractor tires as it is on a normal mountain bike.

If someone made 2.5-inch stud tires the riding would again be possible.

This video seems to have more studs on the side knobs than the center knobs. This helps the riders get loose but still has the knobs to catch the rider when leaning over. Though the use case for a pedal bike would be different than a powerful moto, the right spikes in tires could make some peoples’ winters.
