You Could Own This 'Pirates of the Caribbean'-Themed House for Sale in Texas
One of the upsides to home ownership is the ability to make aesthetic upgrades to your space as you see fit. For most of us, that involves painting and wallpapering, but these homeowners in Plano, Texas decided to transform their abode into a full-on Pirates of the Caribbean experience. And that home is now on the market.
The 3,153-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath home is currently listed for $650,000, and ostensibly includes all of the nautical themed decor and statues throughout. In the living room, which has been transformed into a sort of deck, a pirate is seen hanging down from the sails. A media room even features a built in jail cell housing yet another pirate. Ancient-looking maps and nautical objects adorn the walls, some of which have been paneled in wood to resemble the cabin of a ship.
"Themed after a popular Disney movie, this home is fantastic for entertaining!" states the listing, which has since been picked up by Zillow Gone Wild. It remains to be seen whether a potential buyer will snatch up this deal because of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme or in spite of it.
Among other features, the home includes a bathroom with a two-person electric sauna, tankless water heater, recent HVAC upgrades, two-car garage, covered carport, and a large covered patio overlooking an in-ground pool that, naturally, comes with a "plank" diving board.
While some found the house's whimsical theme amusing, one Twitter user suggested they would "make the designer walk the plank!"
Pirates of the Caribbean, which has become a juggernaut media franchise for Disney, started off as a ride that first opened at Disneyland in 1967 as one of the last attractions at the theme park overseen by Walt Disney himself. Since then, it has gone on to inspire five blockbuster films starring Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp, starting with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003, in addition to countless spin-off books and video games.
