You Could Buy This Tiny Home For Just $1 — And For A Good Cause
With the massive popularity of tiny homes, it's becoming easier than ever to get your hands on one. Even Amazon lists "pre-fabricated tiny homes." And now, in an ironic twist, online estate sale company EVERYTHING BUT THE HOUSE (EBTH) is now auctioning off, well, a house. A tiny house, at that. The container home was originally built by Garnet Hill to serve as a mobile boutique, but now it's up for sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The bidding started at just $1 on October 12 and will go through October 21.
Garnet Hill has agreed to donate a minimum of $25,000 and a maximum of $50,000 from the sale to Habitat for Humanity's Global Impact Fund, which helps with disaster prevention and response, including providing affordable housing. Within 10 hours of the auction beginning, the bidding had reached $7,600.
Inside, the tiny house is absolutely gorgeous, with large windows that let plenty of light into the kitchen and bedroom.
Outside, there's a patio and roof deck — both of which were made for entertaining and help compensate for the modest size of the interior.
This particular auction is a first for EBTH — hence the name of the marketplace, which specifically excludes dwelling spaces.
"We've auctioned off millions of items, everything from a horse and firetrucks to Andy Warhol originals and a rare Torah crown, but an upcycled container home is something we haven't seen yet," said Brittany Sykes, PR Director at EBTH. "We're thrilled to be expanding our inventory into even more uncommon items while also helping to raise money for a good cause."
