Could 15-Year-Old Sky Brown Qualify for Both Surfing and Skateboarding at Paris 2024?

With just a few months left until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the final round of surfers vying for qualification are set to compete for the remaining spots.

The ISA World Surfing Games will go down February 23rd-March 3rd in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and the outstanding Olympic surfing qualifier slots will be filled – six for the men, eight for the women, all correlating to National Olympic Committee quotas.

And one of those surfers gunning for a spot to compete at Teahupo’o, Tahiti during the Paris 2024 Games is already a former Olympic medalist…but not in surfing.

During the Tokyo 2020 Games, then 13-year-old Sky Brown won a bronze medal in the women’s park skateboarding event, representing Great Britain.

Now, at 15 years old, Brown is hoping to qualify for Paris 2024 in skating and surfing.

If she does, she’d be the first-ever to compete in both Olympic surfing and skating. Although, the history doesn’t run that deep; Paris 2024 will only be the second time that both sports will appear on the Olympic docket. Regardless, if she pulls it off, she’d join a relatively rare status as an Olympian competing in two different sports.

Then, not to mention, there’s the distance factor of competing in both sports. Surfing will take place in French Polynesia, on the island of Tahiti, at the famed reefbreak of Teahupo’o. Skating will take place in the actual host city, Paris, which is about 10,000 miles away. Talk about jet lag.

And there's another catch: Brown hasn’t qualified for either sport…yet.

As for surfing, and the ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico, here’s the BBC:

“The world's top surfers from 50 countries will be competing. Brown needs to finish in the top 16, or reach heat eight, to qualify a place for Team GB.”

Stay tuned.
