According to Business Insider, around 60,000 people apply to become Chick-fil-A franchisees each year. Why? Because compared to McDonald's and Wendy's, the cost to open America's favorite fast food chain is reportedly significantly cheaper. But here's the thing—out of that 60,000, only about 80 are selected. That's a 0.13 percent chance, folks!

So how does Chick-fil-A filter so many people out? Oh, just with a dozen different interviews. No, seriously, candidates have to go through at least twelve interviews either in person, over the phone, or via video chat before getting any farther. Then after many months, and maybe even a year, you might be selected. Forbes reported back in 2007 that candidates can also be dropped from the process at any time.

The reasoning for such a thorough process is that Chick-fil-A is incredibly invested in their franchisees. "Being a franchised Chick-fil-A Operator is anything but a passive investment," their site notes before moving on to dispel rumors about the program.

They also specify that you may end up "investing" much more than $10,000 (though they'll pay for all building and opening costs), but also that you don't have to have any kind of restaurant experience or Chick-fil-A knowledge even. That said, more than half the franchisees who make it all the way through the process "have some prior job experience with Chick-fil-A," BI notes.
