Not everyone is blessed with a refrigerator that has an automatic ice maker built into it. And for those of us who have to get our ice cubes the old fashioned way, we know the struggles of having ice cubes on deck at a moment's notice all too well.

Between the always cracked ice cube trays and the roommates who don’t understand how to refill them, ice cubes can easily become a hot commodity for anyone in search of a cool beverage depending on the household. However, just because your refrigerator doesn’t automatically generate perfect cubes of ice on command, it does not mean that you cannot live out your rightful ice cube dreams.

If you’re a membership holder at Costco and happen to be in search of a way to upgrade your ice making capabilities, the always reliable bulk warehouse club has got quite the useful tool for you.

Available for $79.99, Frigidaire’s Countertop Ice Maker is an excellent solution for those who take pride in the finer things in life (such as bullet shaped ice cubes) and don’t feel like waiting on those old ice trays to finally freeze over. Featuring an automatic self cleaning system and digital LED controls, this workhorse of a countertop piece of equipment can make up to 26-pounds of ice in just 24 hours. Frigidaire’s stainless steel unit also comes with its own ice scoop and can make bullet shaped ice in both small and large sizes.

After being spotted by Costco Buys and quickly shared to Instagram, one helpful customer jumped at the opportunity to give a breakdown of their experience with this exact Frigidaire ice maker.

“It does make ice within 15 minutes, and a full bucket of ice after about 45-60 minutes,” the customer explained. “However, I noticed mold still forming after doing the self cleaning modes multiple times."

In terms of the machine's total ice output, the customer noted that “the ice basket also needs to be emptied every time it’s full or the ice will melt." They concluded that “it only holds about a 16-ounce cup worth of ice, so you will need multiple batches if you’re wanting to have multiple large cold drinks.”

When it comes to buying appliances like this, it's super helpful to have direct customer feedback to help you come to a decision when making a purchase. And while some customers raised valid concerns regarding the ice maker's pros and cons, others were quick to exclaim their love for it.

“I bought one over a year ago and it’s great,” one satisfied shopper announced. “Easy to clean, fits on my counter and makes ice in no time.”

If this appliance is of interest to you, it would be safe to say that you should do a little preparation before purchasing. Just make sure that you have enough freezer space for an ice basket so you can easily unload batches of ice into the freezer, and don’t rely on the automatic cleaning mode for all cleaning purposes. A little manual labor didn’t hurt anybody and your mold-free ice will thank you later.
