A Corn Maze Shaped Like the United States Opened in Virginia

You better brush up on your geography before visiting Lee Highway Farms in Bristol, Virginia.

Last year geography-buff Stewart Etter designed his Washington County corn maze in the shape of Virginia. But this year he’s stepped it up and carved his corn rows to resemble the entire continental United States!

Etter, 34, told Bristol Herald Courier that the pathways follow along state lines. If you’re up for the challenge, there are 16 cities that you have to find along the way, including Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York.

“And we even included Bristol,” he said. “We had to include Bristol.”

Etter told WTVR that recreating the familiar map in his field was an all-day affair. Wearing a GPS device, he and a friend walked in front of the machinery to ensure the states were cut correctly.

“It’s a one-shot deal,” he noted. “New England was the hardest to cut because the states are so small.”

After you’ve found your way out of the patriotic maze, feel free to visit the farm’s pick-your-own pumpkin patch and take a hayride around the property.

“Come on down to Southwest Virginia,” Etter told WTVR. “There’s a lot of stuff down here, good friendly people, a lot of good places to eat. This is the best time of the year to be in the mountains.”

Lee Highway Farms is open daily and tickets to try your navigation skills in the maze are $10 for adults, $6 for kids, and children under four are free with an adult.
