Corey Feldman Would Love to Do a 'Goonies' Sequel

As a child star, Corey Feldman was a staple of '80s movies, with roles in many of that decade's most beloved films, including Gremlins, The Lost Boys, and Stand By Me. But to this day, he is still perhaps best remembered for his work in Richard Donner's The Goonies.
In a recent interview with Drew Barrymore, the actor revealed that a reunion is not out of the question, given that he is still good friends with his co-stars 38 years later.
"I'm still close with every one of them," he said. "Sean [Astin] and I are still like brothers, Ke [Huy Quan] and I are still brothers, Jeff and I still talk all the time... we are all still a family... My number one memory of The Goonies is the family we created and the love we've created, and it still resonates today." He went on to express his affection for director Dick Donner, who passed away in 2021, saying that he was like a father to him, and paid for his rehab when he needed help.
Feldman also referenced the potential for a sequel to The Goonies, joking about The Goonies 2 which has languished on IMDb for "the last 20 years."
"Back when Dick was alive, we were all pining for it," he said. "In fact, Sean and I actually wrote a treatment at one point, and we presented it to Dick... and they loved it, but they said it was too expensive at the time."
The timing for a return to the Goon Docks couldn't be better: Ke Huy Quan, who played Data in the 1985 classic, is in the middle of a huge comeback, and is up for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his performance in the sci-fi epic Everything Everywhere All at Once. As recently as last month, Quan expressed an interest in getting the gang back together and reprising his role in a sequel if it was the right story
"We had numerous scripts, but there was not one script that felt it could live up to what the original was," he said. "Sadly we lost the captain of our ship Dick Donner, and I really don’t know if there’s going to be a Goonies 2, but I would really love to revisit the character of Data if there is an opportunity."
