Calling all horse girls.

If you pay attention to pop culture, you would already know that we're in for a yee-haw summer. Beyoncè is putting away the silver sparkles in favor of cowboy boots, Dasha's song "Austin" is absolutely dominating TikTok, and Bella Hadid has been spotted wearing a cowboy hat to support her new boyfriend at the rodeo.

While men, of course, are making their contributions to the genre—I'd be remiss not to mention Morgan Wallen's massive chokehold on the radio charts and the rise of Noah Khan—but between Beyoncé's aforementioned album, Lana Del Rey's upcoming country album Lasso, and Kacey Musgraves' freshly-released Deeper Well, one thing is clear: This spring, country is for the girls.

We've already started dusting off our cowboy boots (thankfully, we held onto them from 2020), but given the female-driven country comeback, it only makes sense that we would put a girlier twist on classic country style. Enter the coquette cowgirl aesthetic, which we're expecting to see everywhere this spring and summer.

Consider the aesthetic more of a vibe than a specific look. Basically, if the answer to "Would Dolly Parton wear this?" (WDPWT, for short) is yes, then consider it a coquette cowgirl moment. Musgraves is a shining example of the look, wearing lace-up corsets, ruffle mini dresses, feminine kerchiefs, and big boots. This album cycle, her look is a little more Little House on the Prairie-core than her usual retro country glam, but the ruffles and soft colors are perfectly aligned with the coquette of it all.

While Musgraves is leaning into the '70s, Beyoncè is pulling from '80s Dolly, most notably with her hair. Ever since announcing her Cowboy Carter album at the Super Bowl, she's been wearing her hair platinum blonde and in giant, swooping curls that pair perfectly with a cowboy hat. When it comes to the clothes, she's been opting for femme fatale over ultra-girly but has been incorporating plenty of cute details like ruffly lace, embellished French manicures, and a tiny little purse covered in hearts.

Del Rey has yet to officially enter her country era (Lasso is set to drop in September), but she's been hinting at what it might look like with her outfits over the past few months. The "Video Games" singer wore a '60s minidress and riding boots to perform at Graceland (the ultimate coquette cowgirl move) and often pairs ruffled dresses and Western belts on tour. She's also been spotted wearing cowgirl boots on more than one occasion. Plus, we all know she loves some big hair.

For a more casual take on the trend, look to Bella Hadid, who, ever the horse girl, celebrated her 27th birthday at the stables. She wore an otherwise classic cowgirl look with bootcut jeans and a hat but opted for girly accents like an off-the-shoulder top and heart-shaped belt buckle. It's just a touch of coquette and a whole lot of cowgirl, but pairing the ensemble with It Girl-approved moto boots gave Hadid's outfit a very 2024 feel.

When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a classic pair of cowgirl boots and a sundress—the more ruffles, the better. If you're feeling festive, add a hat—just go classic with the color palette, as a hot pink cowgirl hat pairs best with bachelorette parties and Harry Styles concerts.

Not into dresses? Add a little coquette flair to your jeans and leather jacket with some hair bows, ballet flats, or butterfly broaches. Or, add pops of pink to classic country staples like cow print and bandanas.
