These Are the Best Winter Movies to Watch on Your Next Snow Day

We love winter for so many reasons! It gives us the excuse to cozy up in our comfy pajamas and make our favorite winter desserts. Oh, and we can't forget about the hot chocolate, too! The only thing that can make this better is a good winter movie to throw on as we sit back and relax! If you like where this is going, then you'll be even more pleased to know we made a list of the best winter movies to stream now.
Each one of these flicks is set in snowy wintertime, but that doesn’t mean they’re all the same. There are options for kids' movies, like Frozen and Snow Day, or you can choose something a little more adventurous for adults. For example, maybe The Mountain Between Us will fit the bill, or you'll love one of the best thriller movies like Misery. (Ree Drummond is still haunted by the latter, so make sure you have lots of cozy throw blankets to cover your eyes with if you choose that one!) Humor is also highlighted here, with romantic comedies like Serendipity and feel-good movies like Groundhog Day. The world is your wintery oyster!
The Cutting Edge

Despite all of the holiday fun, winter can be stressful! So, when Chelsea finds out she inherited a chalet in Vail, Colorado, you can bet that she heads there in no time. She doesn't realize that her "relaxing" trip will be full of romance and new fun.

We're suckers for true stories, especially when a dog is involved! This one has to do with a professional dogsled trainer, and the quest that he and his lead dog began in 1925. Watch Willem Dafoe play the historic figure, and how he depicts the journey they went through in the Alaskan tundra as a means to help a small town in need.
Eight Below
A pack of sled-trained dogs are left to fend for themself in the grueling winter in Antartica, which means they must use their animal instincts to survive. In the mean time, their loving guide, Jerry (Paul Walker) is doing whatever it takes to find his precious pups and bring them back to safety.

Puppies that can talk? Sign us up! You'll love watching this adorable group make friends with some huskies, a breed entirely new to them! They get into a bunch of winter fun and shenanigans.
Elf
Elf is the perfect Christmas movie and winter flick all in one! It centers around the misfit "elf" named Buddy, and the New York City holiday escapade he gets himself into as he tries to find his father.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
This rendition of The Nutcracker sees Kiera Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy! She acts as a guide to a young girl who stumbles upon a magical world after receiving a gift from her mother. Can she help the girl find her inner (and mystical) strength?
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
There are *so* many snow shots and winter-filled scenes in this installment of the Star Wars series! This one sees Han Solo and Princess Leia try to flee from the imperials. This is also the one where Yoda teaches Luke some nifty tricks. (Oh, and a very serious, and iconic, discovery is made at the end of the film...)
Ice Princess
Harvard or figure skating? Casey can only have one of these things, apparently, and she knows that she wants the latter. However, both her mother and the captain of the local skating team try to persuade her otherwise. Try they might—they're no match for Casey's undeniable talent!

While You Were Sleeping
It's the classic tale of a woman who falls for the *brother* of her longtime crush (after she saved his life). Sandra Bullock stars in this movie set in Chicago, the windiest, chilliest city of them all! You can expect her to be sporting the best outerwear you've ever seen.
The Mighty Ducks
A down-on-his-luck lawyer gets the hardest case of a lifetime: turning an underdog crew of pee wee hockey players into the champs of the town. He's not too sure if this is something he even wants to pull off, but he has no choice.
Knives Out
This one contains a nail-biting mystery surrounding a mischievous family and their greedy intentions after the richest man in the household dies. Besides the twist-and-turns, the stylish coats and sweaters shown throughout the film has us wanting to reinvent our winter wardrobe.
Coming to America
Prince Akeem of Zamunda (Eddie Murphy) comes to America with the hopes of finding his future wife. He leaves his lavish scene only to arrive to America in quite possibly the coldest weather he has ever experienced!
