The Coolest New Helmets for 2016
POC representatives describe their new Tectal mountain bike helmet as the company’s Trabec mountain bike helmet blended with its Octal road helmet. Ventilation and unibody construction is influenced by the Octal, and the Tectal’s shape and coverage provided a starting point, but POC increased protection at the back of the head and around the temples. The visor swings high enough to carry goggles, and is designed to break away in a crash, or if snagged on a branch. Two versions are offered: the standard version shown here, or the pricier Tectal Race, which includes a goggle strap keeper and Recco reflector which can aid search and rescue teams equipped with Recco detectors. —Matt Phillips
