Cool Accent Wall Is Both Gorgeous and Functional

When it comes to accent walls bigger is sometimes better, but it really is all about how you plan something. The creators of this particular wall had a really ugly open space that they needed to do something with, but it was also kind of in a weird corner, limiting exactly what they could do with it. They knew they wanted to add some paint and some shelving, and settled on one creative solution.

To start this project off right the creator first gives herself a blank canvas by painting everything plain white, then she sketches out an archway shape on her wall, making sure to line it up perfectly and get the curve of the top just right. This is followed up by painting that arch a beautiful dusty turquoise shade that personally reminds me of something very beachy.
The next step is to make a couple of natural wood shelves using some long two by fours and mount them to the accent arch with a few small brackets. The length of the boards themselves extends out past the arch on either side, adding a unique visual element that I simply adore.
In the end the result is a gorgeous accent wall that actually has a purpose as well, rather than simply being a random wall that no one can really do anything with and isn't that something we all want out of our homes?
