You know those viral images of people who find themselves in doppelgänger form hanging on the walls of galleries in 16th-century oil paintings? Or in photos of political marches from 1956? Well, this post feels like one of those moments. We just can't believe this isn't a real 1960s photoshoot and Kaia Gerber hasn't been Dorian Gray-ing us. Curveball... what if she is in fact Cindy Crawford's mother?
Ok, we've seen her grow up in the public eye, so her age and status as a Gen Z would stand up in court. But wow does she embody the 1960s with an energy and look that certainly doesn't say 'I was born the same year as the iPod, the Harry Potter movies and Destiny's Child's Survivor album.'
Looking like Twiggy's cute brunette bestie, Kaia's hair is swept back in a soft XL bouffant, with sweet untamed baby hairs and thick luscious lengths falling around her slight shoulders, the work of creative hair stylist and beauty editor Anthony Turner.
Swiping through to see the glam we see a natural matte base a-la-cloud skin, with a smattering of freckles poking through and pink lip. If that wasn't 1960s enough, just look at those spidery, separated, babydoll lashes. No, this wasn't achieved with pink plastic-encased products and powder puffs, while sat at a three-pane mirrored dressing table with a little curtain around the base; it was the work of makeup artist Lauren Parsons.
Bouffants have become something of a motif for the second-gen supermodel, with one of the biggest we've ever seen worn for her iD cover shoot (slide 2).
Not to mention back in 2018 when Kaia was just 17 she walked in the Valentino Haute Couture Fall Winter 2018/2019 during Paris Fashion Week. A moment that firmly put her on the radar not as Cindy Crawford's daughter, but as Kaia Gerber.
The drama the style gives her delicate face and frame makes it an understandable choice for a striking impact. That and her clearly being a time traveller. Sorry, you can't change my mind.
