You know Constance Wu as the star of box office hits like Hustlers and Crazy Rich Asians. But, did you know that, off-camera, she is somewhat of a skincare fanatic? It's no wonder the 38-year-old actress has maintained the smooth, glowy skin dreams are made of. In fact, skin was top of mind as early as here tween-age years, when she first heard of luxury skincare brand La Mer (she now loves the $345 Moisturizing Soft Cream in particular). "The first time I heard about La Mer was in middle school, and I read that J.Lo used it," she told the New York Times in 2018. "I didn't always use it, but once I started making money, I was like, 'I can actually afford to treat myself.' To me, skincare is a pleasure." Amen to that.

She uses a mix of different sunscreens.

"I used to use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, but then I read that physical sunscreens are better than chemical ones, and I switched to one by La Roche-Posay," she told NYT. She has also used Missha's All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk. "I off of Amazon and it took, like, three months to get here," she told told Refinery29 in 2015. "And it says that it has 50+ SPF, and I’m not quite sure I believe that, but I really, really like it.”

She incorporates a vitamin C serum.

Ask any derm what their must-have product is and they'll tell you–aside from SPF–it's a vitamin C serum. Constance likes to use C-Firma from Drunk Elephant. "This was a recommended product [at Sephora], so I gave it a go and loved it," she said. In the past, she used now-discontinued vitamin C capsules from The Body Shop. "When I put those on, my skin is always really clear and glowing the next day," she told Refinery29.

She makes sure to switch up exfoliators.

She swears by cult-favorite product Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peels. "If I want to be really glow-y the next day, I definitely use them," she told NYT. "Sometimes I use a prescription retinoid called tretinoin. If I do the peel, though, I skip that. I won’t use both." Good call–both resurface the top layers of your skin so overdoing it could lead to irritation.

She avoids certain food for her skin.

"I got adult eczema. I don’t want to be on steroid creams, so I worked with a dermatologist on an elimination diet to see what foods triggered it," she told the Times. Among those on here "no" list? Pineapple.

She incorporates drugstore products for cleansing.

"When I was a kid, nice skincare for me—because I grew up in suburban Richmond, Virginia—was like Neutrogena that you would get at the drugstore," she told Refinery29.While Constance now loves the La Mers of the world, she also swears by Neutrogena makeup wipes and a $11 Clearasil face wash. "I've been using it since I was a teenager," she shared.

She also double cleanses.

"I have a whole other routine at night. If I’ve had a shoot and I’m wearing makeup, I do different types of cleanser," she said. She uses an oil cleanser from SK-II first "that takes the makeup off."

She loves face masks.

"If I have an event or something, I sometimes do a face mask before," she told NYT. She discovered the brand Naruko while filming Crazy Rich Asians. "I was at a drugstore in Singapore buying toothpaste, and they had a sampler pack of face masks with the Naruko ones I love so much," she said. In the past, she's tried the Facial Treatment Mask from SK-II. "They're pretty good. I've used it a couple of times," she said to Refinery29.

She avoids a matte finish.

"I don’t like how my skin looks when it’s powdered. I prefer dewy skin over matte," she told Allure in 2017. That's achieved with a great skincare routine, of course, but she also loves the classic Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

She embraces her natural freckles.

While filming CRA in Singapore and Malaysia, she kept being pushed skin-whitening products in stores "to fade my freckles," she told Allure."’m not a white translucent tulip. I’m the granddaughter of Chinese bamboo farmers, the daughter of immigrants, the sister of an ultramarathoner (who runs for hours...in the sun!), and an American," she says. "I like my freckles and my natural skin color. It’s who I am."

She started caring about skincare early.

"I’ve always had pretty good skin," she admitted to Refinery29. "I haven’t had to worry too much. I’ve also always taken really good care of my skin since I was little, so I guess that’s helpful.”
