After breaking his leg at UFC 264, Conor McGregor showed off the progress he has been making in his recovery at the MTV VMAs by walking the red carpet with the help of a cane. And, as should perhaps have been expected of a man with the self-ascribed nickname "Notorious," it wasn't long before McGregor's appearance led to a ruckus, with the MMA pro reportedly getting into a fight with musician Machine Gun Kelly.

According to one source, McGregor approached Kelly and his partner, actress Megan Fox, on the red carpet to ask for a photo, and a scuffle then ensued when Kelly declined, and McGregor threw his drink at Kelly and Fox before being escorted away by security.

Kelly declined to comment on the altercation to reporters for the rest of the evening, but McGregor, who was at the show to present an award, told Entertainment Tonight that "absolutely nothing" happened. "I just showed up... I don't even know the guy, to be honest," he said, calling reports of a fight "just rumors."

"Nothing happened with me," he continued. "I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean? I certainly don't fight little Vanilla Ice boy rappers... I don't even know the guy, I don't know anything about him, except that he's with Megan Fox."

While McGregor might claim that "nothing happened," photos have emerged from the event which indicate that a physical altercation did occur, and that McGregor attempted to throw a punch at MGK despite the fact that Fox, who is speculated to be pregnant, was stood between them.

McGregor's team have since issued a statement to ESPN, stating: "Conor McGregor did not ask anyone for a picture, nor did he instigate this incident. He does not know Machine Gun Kelly, outside of the fact that he attended Conor's fight this past July."

The specifics of the incident may never be known, but this is far from the first time that McGregor has been involved in a clash outside of the ring. He faced legal trouble in 2018 after throwing a metal dolly at several of his fellow UFC fighters, then again in 2019, ironically enough for smashing a fan's phone after he spotted them taking his picture.
