Connie Britton’s Hair Is Full of Feminism

It’s no secret that Connie Britton has amazing hair. In her everyday life, on the red carpet, and on screen, the strawberry blonde shade and apparent fluffiness (I’ve never touched it to attest to this fact), she inspires hair envy amongst many. But while she might be a beauty brand’s dream ambassador, products aren’t the key to her lovely locks: it’s feminism.

“After years of being asked about my healthy, shiny hair, I am thrilled to share my beauty secret with you,” she said. “When used regularly, feminism has been known to produce amazing results.” Examples being the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote, Title IX granting equality in athletics, the Violence Against Women Act, and more.

“Feminism is meant to be used on a daily basis and works best when shared,” Britton continued, and is then joined by her co-star on the the Tennessee-based show, Laura Benanti. Benanti, who wrote and directed the video for The Representation Project, asks, “But what if I don’t need feminism?” Britton’s response? “Trust me girl, you do.”

The short was produced by the organization behind the #AskHerMore campaign, which encourages journalists to ask women more substantial questions than ‘What are you wearing?’ Britton summed up the message perfectly: “It’s not what’s on my head, it’s what’s in it.”
