In South Windsor, Connecticut, a dog named Obie has been given a second chance after enduring a distressing ordeal. The Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) announced that the dog was discovered abandoned and strapped to a tree at the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary. This 5-year-old Pit Bull was rescued by a passerby who was out walking their own dog on April 22. The local community has been rallying support for Obie since his rescue, eagerly following his journey to rehabilitation and now his search for a forever home.

After being found in a perilous state, Obie — previously known as Kobe — was immediately taken into the care of TRACS. There, he underwent a transformative recovery — as per PEOPLE. The South Windsor Police Department reported the arrest of a 26-year-old woman in connection with the incident, who faced charges including animal cruelty. Released on bond, she awaits her court date. Meanwhile, TRACS has been meticulously attending to Obie’s needs. The shelter has shared Obie’s progress through social media updates, which have captured the hearts of many.

Obie’s journey from abandonment to adoption readiness has garnered significant attention online. TRACS shared updates on social media, revealing his recovery process and the care he received. Obie underwent a thorough health check, received necessary vaccinations, and even enjoyed his first bath, significantly aiding his healing process. “We are blown away with all the calls checking in on Kobe!” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “We cannot believe the distance his story has traveled.”

Now, almost a month after his rescue, Obie is prepared for adoption. However, TRACS emphasizes that his next home must meet specific criteria to ensure his well-being. The shelter notes Obie’s distinct personality and needs, such as his affectionate nature, preference for a specialized diet due to a sensitive stomach, and his ongoing adjustment to new environments, which includes learning leash manners. Although good with children, his interactions with other dogs or cats haven’t been extensively tested. Therefore, TRACS prefers placing him in a home where he can be the sole focus of attention.
