Concert goers, TikTok debunk viral video claiming Sam Smith did a failed stage dive at show: 'I watched this happen in person'

A video of a performer wearing a green outfit has been falsely labeled as being Sam Smith doing a stage dive at a Seattle performance. In reality, it was an audience member in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume at a Vanilla Ice concert in Oregon.
In the video, the concert attendee tries to stage dive into the crowd. But instead of catching them, the audience appears to scream and clear out of the way.
Commenters’ reactions ranged from sympathetic to horrified.
“Like he really didn’t think that through at all,” wrote @hippieheartjenn.
“His intrusive thoughts won that day,” added @carsynashley.
But while the commenters’ reactions may have been very real, it was not actually of Sam Smith. The Associated Press confirmed that the person leaping off the stage was not the English singer. Smith isn’t scheduled to perform in the U.S. on their global tour until July 25.

“It was a guy in a ninja turtle costume at the Vanilla Ice concert last night in Canyonville, Oregon,” explained @devin_n_sales.
“Naahhhh this was the Vanilla Ice concert at Seven Feathers. I watched this happen in person lmao,” added @hannahchristine225.
A Twitter user who attended the concert also posted additional footage of the person dressed in the costume earlier in the day before they apparently decided to leap off the stage.
“Not the TMNT outfit!” wrote @tayyturningpaiges.
The video also shows the person dancing on stage with the main performer before they turn and jump into the crowd.

“I really hope he is ok,” the video ended.
Savvy fans were quick to point out that not only is Smith not even physically in the area of Seattle, as they are on tour in the U.K., but Smith also recently announced that they are on a vocal rest break from performing as well.
