Concerned about the cringe music you’re listening to being a part of your Spotify ‘Wrapped’? We’ve got a hack.

A creator on TikTok, Julia Moncrief (@juliamoncrief), may have just shared a hack to save Spotify users from embarrassment at the end of the year.

Every year, Spotify users are allowed to see their “Wrapped,” which is a recap of all the music they listened to over the previous 11 months. It’s released at the beginning of each December and shows users which artists and songs they listened to the most, what genre of music was their favorite and how their fandom for certain artists stacked up against other Spotify users.

On Oct. 9, Moncrief stitched a video from Eric Beckerman (@ericbeckerman), who was making a plea to have exceptions in the Spotify Wrapped.

“Spotify needs a setting called ‘This doesn’t count,’” Beckerman says in his video. “Sometimes I get sad and I just wanna listen to the Hannah Montana movie soundtrack for 20 hours straight.”

For many people who are forced to play music on their account for other people or for work purposes — or even just have periods of unorthodox listening — this is where Moncrief’s hack comes into play.

“What you wanna do is go to your settings and click on privacy and social,” she says in her post. “You wanna turn on private session. Any songs you listen to then will not go towards your Spotify Wrapped.”

Although the songs and genres aren’t counted toward the end of the year recap, the minutes of music listened to will still show up.

Many Spotify users were upset after hearing about this hack, but only because they didn’t know about it sooner.

“This would have been nice to know before we started listening to the Paw Patrol theme on repeat,” replied @shxnnongrxce.

“Doing this for my bimonthly hamilton phases from now on,” commented @leahfruitsnacks.

Several viewers also shared a way to keep abnormal listening sessions from affecting everyday streaming.

“You can choose “exclude from taste profile” on every playlist you want,” replied @i13tswift.

Doing this hack and creating private sessions will also shield your listening habits from your followers on Spotify. Users can also access this feature on the app and on desktop, making sure certain music can be hidden at all times.
