A Complete Breakdown of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Winners from Season 1 to Season 28

It’s hard to imagine a world in which Dancing with the Stars doesn’t exist (and hopefully ABC keeps on renewing the celebrity dance show). But did you know that the hit competition series has been on television for 15 years and has crowned a total of 28 (!) winning pairs? No, we’re not just talking about Hannah Brown and Bindi Irwin.

And with the recent news that hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews are parting ways with the ABC show (while Tyra Banks is stepping in), we decided to take a trip down memory lane to revisit all of the past Dancing with the Stars winners, from season one to season 28.

1. Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo

Yup, the soap actress and her professional partner were the first-ever team to be awarded the famous Mirrorball Trophy when the show premiered back in 2005.

2. Drew Lachey and Cheryl Burke

After winning season two, Lachey remained heavily involved in the series. He toured as part of the Dancing with the Stars Tour and co-hosted for three weeks during the fifth season in Samantha Harris’s place.

3. Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke

After winning season three in 2006, the pair returned to compete in season 15’s all-star edition. Smith was praised all around for making dancing look “manly.”

4. Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough

Their performances of both a freestyle and a samba proved that Ohno was not only born to speed-skate, but to dance as well.

5. Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough

The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion barely beat out Spice Girl Mel B, who landed second place with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

6. Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas

As if winning first place wasn’t achievement enough, the duo also recieved four out of the five perfect scores given out during the entire season. Pretty impressive.

7. Brooke Burke-Charvet and Derek Hough

Not only did Burke-Charvet dominate the seventh season of the competition, but she also spent some time as a co-host alongside Tom Bergeron.

8. Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas

After the Olympic gold medalist and her partner won season eight, they reportedly dated for a short amount of time.

9. Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson

Donny wasn’t the only Osmond who competed on the show—his sister Marie did as well. Unfortunately, she didn’t get to take home the Mirrorball Trophy like her brother.

10. Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough

While the Pussycat Doll and her partner (who is clearly no stranger to the winner’s circle) were frontrunners all season, it was their jive and tango that lead them to victory in the show's 10th season.

11. Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough

We’re not surprised that the Dirty Dancing star won the title during her season (although, not without injury). These two even landed a perfect score during night one of the finale.

12. Hines Ward and Kym Johnson

On one of the most dramatic seasons to date, Johnson suffered from an intense neck injury. However, that didn’t stop the dancer and her pro-football partner from winning the entire thing.

13. J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff

The war vet helped his professional partner win her first-ever title on the show and simultaneously stole the heart of millions of viewers.

14. Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd

The Greenbay Packers star showed off his fancy footwork on the dance floor and managed to beat fellow finalists William Levy and Katherine Jenkins. Not to mention, he was the last man to win until season 19.

15. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani

Rycroft returned for the special all-star edition of the competition after landing a spot in the finals back in season eight. However, this time she and partner Dovolani took home the gold (well, bedazzled Mirrorball Trophy).

16. Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough

Hough began a winning streak during his time with the American Idol alum. The couple danced their way to the top of the scoreboard, just barely beating out fellow contestants, Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy.

17. Amber Riley and Derek Hough

The Glee actress revealed she never expected to win the competition until her last two weeks on the show. And not only were their final performances show-stopping, their matching teal ensembles were also on point.

18. Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

These two were up against some tough competition during season 18’s finale battling it out against Paralympian Amy Purdy and 2013 champ Derek Hough, as well as Full House star Candace Cameron Bure and her partner Mark Ballas.

19. Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air star proved he could do more than just “the Carlton” when he and two-time competitor Carson took home the win in 2014.

20. Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy

And actress and daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Rumer injured herself earlier in the season but managed to pick herself up and snatch the infamous Mirrorball Trophy.

21.Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough

Before she was a married woman and expecting mother, Irwin proved herself as a frontrunner for DWTS’s 21st season. Not to mention, her partner was a six-time winner at this point.

22. Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd

DiMarco made history as the series’s first deaf contestant, which clearly didn’t stop him from mastering the two-step.

23. Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy

Shortly after her successful 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the USA gymnastics star showed off a different kind of floor skill.

24. Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater

Host Erin Andrews revealed the 32-year-old spent a total of 362 hours rehearsing during the season, the most of any contestant ever. It clearly paid off.

25. Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold

The Hamilton star and his dedicated pro partner earned perfect scores in both their samba and salsa/paso doble fusion during the finale.

26. Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson

The Olympic figure skater proved he was not only gold medal worthy but Mirrorball Trophy worthy as well, taking home the title during the all-athletes season, which also included fellow skater Tonya Harding.

27. Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess

These two beat out Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe, Disney Channel star Milo Manheim and Witney Carson and Instagram star Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten.

28. Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten

The former Bachelorette and Bernsten were the latest to be crowned DWTS champs and beat out country music singer Lauren Alaina, actor/comedian Kel Mitchell and pop star Ally Brooke.
