Community cooking competition returns to Enterprise this spring

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — Citizens of the Wiregrass will once again have a chance to show off their culinary chops in the second annual Farm-To-Fork Chef Showdown.

The event is held to kick off the 2024 Farmers Market Peak Season on Saturday, May 18, from 7:00 a.m. to noon.

The Farm-To-Fork Chef Showdown is a competition in which professional chefs and community cooks partner up to create delicious delicacies from local vendors.

Participants in the showdown will be randomly paired with four Enterprise chefs: C.J. Kay of the Barrell Room, Zaine Young of Corkrs and Cattle, Louis Cameron of The Olive Fruit, and Sofia Quinones of The Social on Main.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m., the teams must shop for fresh produce from the Enterprise Farmers Market. After choosing the ingredients, teams have two hours to create a restaurant-worthy dish.

Those dishes will then be judged by a professional panel and a People’s Choice committee. The judging will take place at 11:00 a.m., with an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

Those wanting to participate in the showdown are asked to register here and must be at least 18 years old. The winners will be announced on May 14. Participants must commit to being at the farmer’s market from 8:30 a.m. to noon and be interested in learning how to utilize local farm fresh produce in cooking restaurant-worthy meals. Participant names will be selected and announced on May 14.

Anyone wanting to serve on the People’s Choice committee must register at the Farmer’s Market before 10:45 a.m.

The event will have around 30 vendors selling farm fresh fruits and vegetables, arts and crafts, boiled peanuts, leather works, wood products, local honey, plants, jewelry, and more. Live music will also be provided by Cam Stephens from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
