Community Bands Together To Help With Stranded Rider's Medical Expenses

Mountain biking is a dangerous sport. Whenever riders get behind bars, there is a risk of significant injury. When these injuries do happen, they can be bad.

At Darkfest, Dan Paley had a gruesome compound fracture in his tibia and fibula above the ankle. Stranded in South Africa, far away from his home and the NHS, Paley needs emergency surgery. To help him out, his friends created a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses. See Dan express his gratitude in his update below.

Thankfully, the riding community stepped up big time. As of Monday, over £12,000 had been donated to help with his surgery expenses. It is always heartwarming to see the mountain bikers helping out their own.

It was also nice to see Dan's modesty and understanding. You can tell it was not his instinct to impose and ask for help.

Dan is going through it and he was moved by the help he was receiving. The saddest part of the video, however, is the fact that Dan said his future was uncertain. After the gruesome injury, Paley is not keen to get back to doing such risky activities, and who could blame him?

We at BIKE are wishing for a speedy recovery for Dan. Below, you can see more details of his GoFundMe.
