Comings & Goings: New grocery store in Dillsburg and new art gallery in Royal Square

Locals’ Market, a new community grocer, has opened in Dillsburg at 200 U.S. 15 North.

The locally owned grocery store opened for business in March and is hosting a grand opening celebration open to the public. During the grand opening May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., local vendors will offer samples of their products, yard games will be provided, and three raffles will be held.

Featuring local products, a meat and seafood case, and a sandwich shop in store, Locals' Market said it plans to bring back the "small-town grocer vibe" to community members.

Comings

Justin Ruby, Katherine Carrillo, and Josh Hankey recently opened Gallery VII at 116 E. King St., York. Sponsored by Royal Square Development & Construction and Polly Rost, Gallery VII aims to put regional artists in a national spotlight and bring national artists to York. Gallery VII’s debut exhibition ”Keep it movin’“ is on view to June 28.

Shine Music Foundation has leased 3,880 square feet of first-floor office space in the historic Golden Swan Tavern building on downtown York's Continental Square, according to a news release from True Commercial Real Estate. Shine provides music education for young people.

Moreira Mercantile located at 13 S. Beaver St., York, is the newest venture by the founders of Mesa Moreira, York's Portuguese restaurant. Moreira Mercantile offers Portuguese specialty items, home décor, locally made treasures, greenery, kitchen supplies and more.

What started out as an act of kindness, delivering soup and pies to neighbors' porches during the pandemic, turned into a business and a hobby for Alison Welch. Her business, The Soup Dragon, is one of Central Market’s newest vendors offering soups, salads and pies where everything is local and homemade, down to the artisan butters on the hot rolls, buttermilk ranch dressing for the salads and whipped cream for the pies. Produce from Mad Radish Farm, another market vendor, goes into their soups and salads, as well as their eggs for quiches. The Soup Dragon will showcase three different soups, which will change each week depending on what's in season, as well as homemade fruit pies, or quiche.

Dottie's Family Market is opening a new greenhouse. The market will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 19 at 12:30 p.m., with live music and food from various food trucks.

Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton York South and the Home2 Suites by Hilton York located at the Queen Street Exit off I-83 have recently been renovated. High Hotels Ltd., a division of the High companies based in Lancaster, said the $3.5 million upgrade included a complete redesign of the interior and exterior of both hotels and was unveiled to the public at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Alicea and Jason Poff have acquired the building at 1501 Mount Rose Avenue that houses their record store, Mothership, and seven other storefronts and offices. They plan to make some cosmetic upgrades to the nearly 4,700-square-foot building and keep it pretty much as is, Alicea Poff said.
