The Comfortable Shorts My Summer Wardrobe Was Desperately Missing

It recently jumped from chilly, breezy spring to scorching 80-degree days in New York, and in these moments of weather-y whiplash, I tend to forget how to dress. The few shorts and skirts I unearth from my closet don't fit well anymore or are too trendy, so I was off on a search for timeless shorts — and Aritzia had just the ones my summer wardrobe was missing.
When I first tried these high-waisted pleated shorts on, I was pleased by how they fit snug (but comfortably) around my waist, but loose at my hips. I have a curvier figure, which means that doesn't always happen, and I instead have to deal with either the most egregious waist gap or the most ridiculous thigh constriction. These, however, complimented my body's curves.
The pleating makes them feel more put-together, and the five-inch inseam shields that sweet spot where my thighs meet and then painfully chafe. (The soft crepe fabric is also gentle on my skin.) The pockets are big enough to actually hold my phone.
If I'm wearing pants, they're probably high-waisted and loose-fitting (like this green or this wool pair) — so these shorts are the perfect summertime alternative. Plus, they're super versatile, and come in a wide range of colors. I only bought one for now, but I'm eyeing a handful of others and planning to rely on this style all season long.
