Comedian Tanya Hennessy Spoofs Complicated Instagram Makeup in Hilarious Tutorial
As much as we all love watching Instagram makeup tutorials, a lot of them can be a bit, well, unrelatable. How are we expected to wear six bronzers/three kinds of concealer/17 eyeshadows for an “everyday” look? That would require setting an alarm way, way too early in the morning.
Thankfully, Tanya Hennessy has us covered. The Australian comedian put together a much more realistic makeup tutorial for those of us who may know our way around a drugstore mascara, but might not have time to rock a complete Instagram-ready #lewk (which, by the way, many makeup bloggers don't use as their go-to).
A few bits of wisdom from her highly relatable routine:
On primer: “I don’t know what it is or what it does, but it was very expensive so I continue to use it.”
On brow gel: “I’m not sure if that’s right or not, but I don’t care.”
On contouring: “I don’t really know how to do that, so I just give it a go.”
On eyeshadow: “I do this darker thing, then I try to blend it together with...I have no idea.”
Tanya keeps it real throughout the hilarious tutorial, but it’s worth noting that some of her habits shouldn’t be replicated. She keeps her makeup for way too long (a six-year-old mascara?! That's not good, especially considering she jokes that it may have given her an infection) and doesn’t wash her brushes (again, not good!).
Tanya actually looks pretty great at the end of the tutorial, and ends the routine with a positive message: “My eyebrows don’t look great, I can’t see out of my right eye.... But anyone can wear makeup. Just give it a go!” Then,she fish gapes at the camera for almost a minute. The final touch.
