Comedian DeRay Davis opens up about being raped when he was 11 years old
In the era of #MeToo, in which women across the country are stepping forward and denouncing their sexual assaulters, men are also finding the courage to open up about being survivors.
Comedian DeRay Davis has been making Americans laugh since he began his career in the early 2000s. He has appeared in films such as 21 Jump Street, Barbershop, and the TV hit Empire. In a recent interview with Vlad TV, the actor shared that he was raped when he was just a little boy.

While discussing sexual assault charges that are proliferating in Hollywood, the Chicago native shifted to talk about his own personal experience with the topic.
“I’ve had older women that have taken advantage of me,” he said.
The interviewer interrupted Davis to ask if it’s true that he lost his virginity to two 30-year-olds at the same time, and laughs. But when Davis reveals that he was an 11-year-old boy when this happened, the interviewer realizes this is no laughing matter.
Davis called them two “ugly, horrible-looking women.” He said he was “11 going on 12 and had no hair on me.” He called what happened to him “disgusting.” Davis said that, to this day, it’s difficult for him to engage in oral sex with his partners because of what the two women did to him as a child. He called the incident a “terrible place to be.”
Although throughout his recollection of the events Davis is smiling, it is clear that the topic is one to be taken incredibly seriously. Rape is rape.
People on Twitter reacted and showed support for Davis for sharing his story.

However, some people also noted that this story is not getting the attention it deserves, because Davis is a man.
the women responding to this acknowledge this is bad, but they're not acknowledging this is bad with the same energy they would if the genders were reversed

Although the #MeToo hashtag is in support of all women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted, it’s time to support men who have gone through these horrible situations as well. Their assaults are just as grave and just as valid.
