Moments before Bloomingdale’s annual holiday window unveiling in New York City, host Amber Ruffin shines in a private upstairs suite while outfitted in a blue velvet suit and metallic silver heels. The comedian and writer is truly in the seasonal spirit — especially since she wanted to see the store’s “Best Holiday Ever”-themed displays first.

“I love to look at their holiday windows every year — but when you do it, you hold up pedestrian traffic,” Ruffin exclusively tells FN. “You can’t do it without someone being like, ‘Get out of the way!’ I specifically wanted to host this so I could see it first, but also see it without being in everyone’s way.”

The metallic shoes Ruffin wears at Bloomingdale’s are a chic take on holiday footwear, which she has on the brain before introducing Jonathan Groff, Norm Lewis and Jessica Vosk for musical performances with Broadway Cares for the event. The “Amber Ruffin Show” host, in fact, reveals her go-to Christmas shoes have just changed after nearly a decade.

“I wore patent leather Mary Janes, and I wore those every year for six years in a row,” Ruffin shares. “Now, I’ve got these thigh-high, black boots with a thick bottom. I think those are going to be my Christmas shoes from now on.”

In addition to footwear, Ruffin’s also faced a switch in her favorite holiday tradition. The “Some Like It Hot” writer always decorates her Christmas tree on Thanksgiving, but reveals change is in order to have the upper hand in the future.

“Since I first moved out of my mom and dad’s house, I would put up my Christmas tree on Thanksgiving,” Ruffin says. “Now, everybody puts up their Christmas tree before Thanksgiving — and I feel like these are the same people who thought I was crazy! I don’t care for that behavior. I started this, and I’m going to have to start putting up my Christmas tree on Halloween.”

Bloomingdale’s holiday windows are now live at 1000 Third Avenue and 59th Street in New York City. Ruffin is currently part of the creative team for “The Wiz,” which will begin previews on Broadway on March 29, 2024.
