Colorful Combo: CovationBio Partners With Oscar Chandler for Sorona Distribution

Oscar Chandler & Co. Inc., is taking a colorful turn in a partnership with Covation Biomaterials.

The New York-based yarn distributor is collaborating with the input maker on yarns made with Sorona polymers that are treated with a special dying process. New colors, which can stand in for Spandex in a number of applications, means a range of new products including socks, sweaters and tape fabrics that will best use Sorona’s two- and four-way stretch.

Oscar Chandler & Co. will be targeting their established mill partners in North and Central America with Sorona, which streamlines the method for dying the polymer and reduces the processing time for colored stretch fabrics made with it.

“We are happy to add Sorona polymer to our portfolio,” said Sridhar Suddala, senior associate, Oscar Chandler & Co., Inc. “Our customers are always looking for new innovations that deliver clear value to the end user.”

Sorona polymer is a high-performing, responsibly sourced material made from 37 percent renewable plant-based ingredients. It has exceptional stretch and recovery, comfort, moisture management, luxurious drape and a superior hand.  Fibers made with Sorona are currently sewn into athleisure and athleticwear, insulation, swimwear, outerwear, suiting, and faux fur, as well as other product categories. It is a USDA Certified Biobased Product, is Bluesign approved and has earned Class 1 certification as an OEKO-TEX standard 100 product.

In addition to Sorona, which is used in garments by Stella McCartney, Tommy Bahama and Lilly Pulitzer, CovationBio produces Susterra, a 100 percent plant-based propanediol, and Zemea, another propanediol.  Committed to the environment, it is also in partnership with Truterra, a farmer-led organization whose goal it is to improve stewardship of U.S. agricultural land.
