On Friday, April 26 Mayor Yemi Mobolade opened the ceremony with a Arbor Day Proclamation and the Colorado State Forest Service presented the city and Colorado Springs Utilities with Tree City USA and Tree Line USA awards.

“Arbor Day allows us the annual opportunity to reflect upon the vision of our founder William Jackson Palmer to create a thriving urban forest in Colorado Springs,” said Dennis Will, City Forester. “Trees are not only vital for the health of our environment, but they also provide numerous benefits to our community such as clean air, shade, and beauty. By planting and caring for trees, we are not only honoring Palmer’s legacy, but also ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.”

The city said City Forestry plans to plant about 50 trees in parks, and medians throughout the city, including the 16 planted on Friday.
