Colorado Ski Resort Flies In Towers For New Chairlift

Aspen Snowmass, Colorado, is making progress on its new Hero's Lift and subsequent terrain expansion.

Today, September 20th, the resort shared an update on the project: the towers for the new lift are officially installed.

The Hero's expansion -- previously called Pandora's -- will serve 150 acres of primarily advanced skiing terrain.

Aspen Snowmass recently explained the name change in a press release:

"With Jim's unexpected passing, we took some time to reflect on the family's and our company's enormous loss and the naming of this historic expansion," says Geoff Buchheister, CEO Aspen Skiing Company. "Jim's legacy and broad impact in Aspen stretched over 35 years, alongside many others we are also choosing to honor. We felt it was meaningful and appropriate to recognize all of the heroes who are tied to this terrain as we unveil this new project."

Once completed, the new lift will be high-speed. The served terrain includes northern aspect, high-elevation chutes, glades, and trails. Aspen Snowmass reports that Hero's will be the resort's "first significant addition since the opening of the Silver Queen Gondola in 1985."

Due to its elevation and aspect, Aspen Snowmass hopes that the expansion will function as a hedge against climate change and warmer temperatures.

If Hero's sounds like it might be up your alley, stop by Aspen Snowmass this upcoming winter -- the new terrain will be open "this [upcoming] winter when conditions allow."
