Colorado Ski Resort Fires Up Grooming Machines And Teases Opening Day: "Time To Dust Off The Skis And Boots."

Update: Arapahoe Basin announced that they will open for the season on October 29th.

Do you smell that? Yeah, I smell it, too: winter -- it's on the way.

Yesterday, Arapahoe Basin -- a Colorado-based ski resort known for being one of the first in the country to open each season -- shared a series of posts on Facebook that indicated that they are getting closer to offering skiing and riding.

The first showed A-Basin's snow guns hard at work.

The second, shared a few hours later, documented an important milestone: A-Basin had begun moving snow with one of its snowcats.

Unsurprisingly, the snowcat post kicked off the opening day rumor mill, with several skiers speculating about an incoming announcement:

"I'm guessing Saturday or Sunday. Any hour now (probably tomorrow) the opening day announcement will come," wrote one skier below the snowcat post.

"Just drove by. They still need a fair bit of snow. Sunday at the earliest. Hoping to get my October day on a chairlift," said another in response.

Yesterday, to quell the speculation and temper expectations, A-Basin wrote the following on Instagram:

"Just gonna get ahead of the comments here: we will open ASAP! No opening date yet. Hopefully soon."

At the time of writing this, A-Basin hasn't made an official opening day announcement yet. Stay tuned, though. With the flurry of activity on the resort's slopes -- from snowmaking to snowcats -- the resort could have good news in the near future.

It doesn't hurt that the forecast calls for snow at A-Basin this weekend -- AccuWeather currently predicts that a foot or more of snow is possible between Friday and Sunday.
