Colorado Ski Area's Opening Day Run Is Nearly 70% Covered With Snow

Earlier this week, October 16th, Loveland Ski Area, Colorado, announced on X that it only needs 33% more snow to completely cover its opening day run.

"The Loveland Snowmaking Team had a productive weekend of snowmaking. The guns were fired up on Friday at 8pm and stayed on until Sunday morning. Loveland Ski Area is about 1/3 away from completing the Opening Day run," the resort wrote on Monday.

Loveland is known to be one of the first Colorado ski areas to open, typically getting the lifts fired up in late October or early November thanks to its aggressive snowmaking efforts.

The resort is joined by Keystone Resort and Arapahoe Basin in the race for first chair, two other Coloradan ski areas that often get the season started before November arrives. Winter Park is somewhere in the mix, too.

As for Loveland, a pre-November opening is still a question mark. While the resort has nearly blown enough snow to cover its opening-day run, its weather for this week -- particularly at lower altitudes where it really counts -- looks a bit warm.

So, it's a toss-up, meaning now is a better time than ever to get those snow dances going. Maybe a little superstition will get Loveland over the finish line early.
