Colorado Ski Area Extends Season Due To "Fantastic" Conditions

Monarch Mountain, Colorado, initially planned to close for the season on April 7th. Then, conditions took a turn for the better.

Now, the Colorado ski area will be open an additional week until April 14th, citing "fantastic" conditions.

Monarch noted that part of this decision stemmed from an impending storm set to hit Colorado in the coming days. Snow is expected to start tonight, with OpenSnow calling for up to 15 inches at Monarch this week.

However, there is a bit of uncertainty among forecasters regarding the storm. NOAA puts the storm total lower at around 10 inches of snow plus a bit of rain.

Still, something meteorological is going to happen at Monarch this week. A Winter Weather Advisory courtesy of the National Weather Service kicks into effect at six P.M. tonight. Their guess? Four to 11 inches of snow in "Lake County Below 11000 Feet, Central and Eastern Chaffee County."

The weather guessing game prevails. Either way, Monarch plans to keep the season rolling for longer.
