Colorado Ski Area Documents First Snowfall Of The Season

Can you hear it? Can you smell it? Can you see it? Can you feel it...? Winter is coming!

Loveland Ski Area, Colorado joined an ever-growing list of North American ski resorts to record their first measurable snowfall of the season on Friday, September 15th, 2023.

The beloved ski area took to social media to share webcam images of the first flakes covering the outside patio area of the Ptarmigan Roost mid-mountain lodge:

Loveland is a perennial contender to be the first ski area open in North America due to it's high elevation and continental weather patterns.

It's not entirely unusual for Loveland to record snowfall in the middle of September, but it's an event that skiers based in Denver and The Front Range are certainly celebrating.

According to Loveland's website, the ski area is anticipating snowmaking efforts to begin as early as October 1st, conditions and weather permitting.

Loveland's earliest opening occurred on October 6th, 2009 when multiple early-season storms hit the high peaks of The Rockies.

When will Loveland open this season? That remains to be seen, but stay right here with Powder for all of the opening day news and excitement. We'll keep you covered.
