Colorado Resort Protects Condos From Mudslides With Temporary Barricade

Last week, on September 7th, Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado, saw a mudslide after the resort's snowmaking system failed.

The slide, which took place on the front hillside, caused minor damage to buildings in the Lift 7 base area.

Telluride is now working to stabilize the slope above Lift 7. To protect homes and infrastructure from further damage, the resort has erected a barricade at the base of the slope.

From the caption:

"A temporary structure was built to protect the people and buildings near the base of Lift 7 from any debris that may break loose due to the recent mudslide, forecasted rain, and remediation work.

This structure was built out of an abundance of caution, and the resort is sparing no expense in both its construction and the overall remediation effort. Our team is tirelessly and diligently working every day of the week to stabilize this slope.

The safety of our community, guests, and residents at the base of Lift 7 remains our top priority. As a result, all front-side access, including Telluride Trail, will remain closed.

This structure will come down once the slope is stabilized, and we will be in touch with further updates as they become available.

Thank you for your support and patience during this time. Please reach out to info@telski.com with any questions."

Last week, Telluride stated that they were in touch with the HOAs of the buildings -- which presumably include some homes -- minorly damaged by the slide. "The ski resort is handling all clean-up and is communicating with the HOAs of the damaged buildings," the resort wrote in a September 8th Instagram update.

With the erection of the barricade and HOA contact, Telluride is demonstrating its commitment to rectifying the complications caused by the snowmaking system error. Good on Telluride for owning up and doing the right thing.
