This New Colorado Eco Hotel Has 14 Geodesic Domes With Private Wraparound Decks and Hammocks — and It's Near the World's Deepest Hot Spring

The world’s deepest hot spring is found in the tiny town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, along the Colorado-New Mexico border. In this hot-water-centric community, the natural soaking tubs along the river and developed hot spring resorts are only topped by the mountainous Continental Divide that towers over them.
It is a place that’s perfect for — and perhaps even made for — geodesic domes, which blur the line between eco-innovation and indulgence. The new Pagosa River Domes, which opened in Pagosa Springs in January 2024, is the first geodesic dome destination in Colorado. The tiny property is set along the roaring San Juan River, which flows through the town of Pagosa Springs and is the site of the town’s best soaking spots.

At Pagosa River Domes guests are welcomed into their eco-home — one of 14 modern domes that are insulated for year-round comfort. Surrounding each dome is a private, wraparound deck outfitted with a gas firepit, free-standing hammock, and seating. Inside the domes are real beds and soft linens in various layouts — from a wheelchair-accessible queen to a deluxe king and a family-designed dome. The curtains open to provide unobstructed views from the bed.

Each geodesic dome has its own kitchenette, with a fridge, cooktop, and a small seating area. A private bathroom rounds out the interior’s offerings, with added bathroom space and a roll-in shower for the ADA-accessible dome. The vibe is contemporary Western, with Pendelton throws, leather lounge chairs, and wooden headboards.
The domes are suitable for any season, with air conditioning and a freestanding electric fireplace.

Pagosa River Domes is perched just east of town en route to Wolf Creek Ski Area, a beloved ski and snowboard resort that’s famous for having “the most snow in Colorado.” The center of the town’s hot spring action is less than 30 minutes on foot or a four-minute drive from the domes. Visitors can head to the town’s free springs, set in rocks along the river, or visit The Springs Resort & Spa, a hot spring property that boasts the most geothermal hot spring pools in Colorado, with most pools set overlooking the San Juan River.
For a taste of the local history, visit the Chimney Rock National Monument. The beautiful and sacred place celebrates the life of Ancestral Puebloans who lived in the area thousands of years ago, offering modern-day visitors a glimpse into the ancient history along with hiking trails leading to stunning, wide-open vistas. The monument is 30 minutes by car from the domes.
