College Student Makes Horrific Discovery in Dumpster Behind Popular Pet Store
We've all been shopping in our local pet store and have seen the containers housing Betta Fish that are available for purchase. Most times that are housed in small plastic storage containers and a lot of the time they just don't look that healthy.
Any animal lover can feel sympathy for these small fish but TikTok user @Ugckatehahn32 recently discovered something far worse than murky water and pale scale coloring behind her own local pet store.

"This is our first time dumpster diving, and we just found an entire box of live fish," says the person recording the video, who goes by Kate on her account. This isn't the first time the pet store named in the video has been under investigation, because in 2021 dumpster divers claimed they found live hamsters and a parakeet tossed away like trash.
TikTok users are rightfully appalled, and @Autumn claims, "As a former employee I can account to this and that was one the reasons I quit." @Kariin adds, "This is unforgivable." @Connor adds, "They should just put them up for free instead of throwing them away."
Kate explains in her video that she decided to check the dumpster in hopes of finding items she could donate to her local animal shelter, but was totally unprepared to find live fish that she had no idea how she could possibly help. She explains in her follow-up:

Kate believes that these poor fish may have been thrown away by accident, and she confronted some store employees. The employees of the PetSmart said they were shocked and unaware the fish were discarded. PetSmart said the fish were returned to the store and cared for.

Not only do we feel terrible for the fish, but the amount of guilt poor Kate is putting herself through for not taking all these fish is heartbreaking, She did everything she could and hopefully mistakes like this won't happen again.
Here's one thing we know for sure, the next time we pass by a pet store dumpster, we'll be taking a peek inside just to make sure.
