The Collabs: A Bathing Ape and Suicoke Unite to Make Sandals for the Entire Family

April 30, 2019: Streetwear standouts A Bathing Ape and Suicoke have teamed up for a must-have sandal collab for the entire family. For men and women, A Bathing Ape remixed Suicoke’s new Dao model with the iconic Bape 1st Camo print in two colorways (blue and green), and kids are treated to black and beige Moto-2 sandal iterations, also featuring the pattern. The styles are scheduled to drop Saturday at all A Bathing Ape locations. The men’s and women’s looks will retail for 20,000 yen (roughly $180 at the current conversion rate) and the sandals for kids will come with a 14,000 yen ($126) price tag.

April 26, 2019: Everyone’s favorite cartoon animals are hitting the streets through a new collaboration between Skechers’ Bobs brand and Warner Bros. The two teamed on a special collection of women’s slip-ons featuring famed crime-fighting canine Scooby-Doo as well as Droopy Dog, Top Cat and Huckleberry Hound. The Scooby-Doo line is available now on Skechers.com and features three styles retailing for $47 each. The other character looks will debut during the summer. As part of its philanthropic mission, Bobs donates 25 cents from the sale of each of its shoes to the Petco Foundation to help animals across the country.

April 25, 2019: Inspired by the popular military trend in footwear, Clarks Originals is partnering with Canadian retailer and streetwear brand Haven, for a fresh take on the footwear brand’s classic Wallabee style. The Clarks Originals Gore-Tex Ballistic Wallabee boot reimagines the look in a waterproof version featuring a full Gore-Tex lining and upper done in ballistic nylon and suede. Available beginning on April 27, the boot will be available in Haven stores and online for $225.

April 25, 2019: Clarks and National Geographic have partnered on a collection of children’s styles inspired by amazing species on the planet, many photographed by Joel Sartore, founder of The National Geographic Photo Ark, which includes 9,000 photos of wildlife. Each shoe utilizes sustainable design elements including printed canvas from recycled plastic bottles, recycled foam insoles and packaging made of 90% recycled paper. The shoes retail for $45-$55 and are available online and in select Clarks stores.

April 22, 2019: Nicole McLaughlin has amassed a loyal following on Instagram for her cleverly reworked footwear. Now the artist — who works as a graphic designer at Reebok — is partnering with Depop as part of a broader campaign, dubbed #NothingNew, timed in conjunction with Earth Day. For the collaboration, McLaughlin will introduce a pair of booties created with material from a jacket she bought from the online marketplace. In addition, the duo will reveal three never-before-seen pieces. “Reworking is so important because there are tons of great products in the world [already],” McLaughlin said. “Instead of contributing more waste, I love to take these pieces, give them a new life and challenge the perception of what ‘reused’ looks like.”

April 22, 2019: Sneaker brand Keds and clothing label Ace&jig have found a common thread. Ace&jig, which specializes in ethically made textiles crafted by artisans in India, has applied some of its colorful fabrics to Keds’ slip-on and lace-up sneakers. The collection includes four styles available in limited quantities on Keds.com and Nordstrom.com, selling for $120. And to celebrate Earth Day, a special “no waste” style (made from textile scraps) will be sold at select Nordstrom Local stores in L.A. during a pop-in event on April 25, priced at $225.

April 20, 2019: Just in time for the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, laid-back California brand Sanuk is flashing back to the ‘60s via a collaboration with the Grateful Dead. The men’s and women’s collection celebrates the legacy of the group with styles that include the Yoga Sling 2 sandal, Furreal flip-flops and hemp Sidewalk Surfers, detailed with tie-dye colors and the band’s signature Steal Your Face logo. The shoes are available now on Sanuk.com for $49 to $65.

April 19, 2019: New York-based artist Patrick Church just released his latest collection complete with ballet flats from Repetto. The collaboration, which is now available in-store and online at Opening Ceremony, features hand-painted ballet flats by Church himself. “We have been talking about doing a collaboration for a little while now and I’ve always wanted to put my work into footwear,” said Church. “So I jumped when they suggested we collaborate with Repetto.” The shoes, which are retailing for $325, are an OC exclusive. Other Repetto styles painted by Church directly are available at the store, in addition to T-shirts, jeans and silk pants.

April 19, 2019: French girl-favorite shoe label Chatelles Paris has teamed up with a new French lifestyle manual. Brand founder Francois du Chastel has created a special model to accompany the launch of “Ze French Do It Better,” a guide by French fashion writers Valérie de Saint-Piere and Frédérique Veysset that gives the inside track on perfect Frenchness. The summer-ready slip-on is available in both Breton stripes and hessian beige. The shoes are $300 at My Chatelles and the book, published by Flammarion, is $22.

April 19, 2019: Female-founded brands Cuyana and Amanu are partnering on a curated selection of sandals. The two pairs come in five colorways, with the first debuting today and the second launching in May. As part of the collaboration, Amanu will host pop-up shops in two of Cuyana’s brick-and-mortar stores, where customers will be able to create their own customized shoes, retailing between $270 and $295. It also marks the first time Amanu is available online. (The brand, founded by celebrity stylist Anita Patrickson, operates an appointment-based showroom in Los Angeles.)

April 19, 2019: Joining forces for the first time, British designer Vivienne Westwood and sport performance brand Asics are launching an exclusive collection of limited-edition shoes. The capsule line of five trainers reimagines Westwood’s artistry and Asics’ classic styles, including those from the Asics Tiger line. For the initial release, the duo is introducing the $190 Gel-Mai Knit shoe, which adopts the designer’s famed squiggle print (used in her fall ’81 debut runway collection). The second shoe, the Gel-Kayano 5 OG, was released in 1999 and relaunched in 2018. Its latest iteration — in a bright red and orange palette — is priced at $180. Three additional styles will be released in July, with all shoes available on VivienneWestwood.com and Asics.com.

April 16, 2019: Third time’s the charm! Hoka One One and cult-fave activewear brand Outdoor Voices are releasing their third collaboration. This time, they’ve reimagined Hoka’s OV Clifton running shoe in two seasonally appropriate colorways: a violet version and an all-white style. The white sneaker comes with rainbow laces and white laces for customization options. The sneakers retail for $140 and are available online at Hokaoneone.com or Outdoorvoices.com.

April 15, 2019: Allbirds is taking flight this spring. In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, it has teamed up with the Audubon Society for a collection of limited-edition unisex styles inspired by endangered birds. The series, which releases today with the Tree Runner Painted Redstart style, will continue through April 19 with the Wool Runner Pygmy Nuthach, Mountain Bluebird and Scarlet Tanger styles, in addition to the Tree Runner Allen’s Hummingbird style. All proceeds will be donated to the Audubon Society. The shoes retail for $95 and will be available on Allbirds.com.

April 11, 2019: Camper is teaming up with Spanish artist Coco Capitàn to present Lost Sailor, a collection inspired by the sea. Connecting her interests in sailing, navy uniforms and the Mediterranean, Capitàn designed a limited-edition of Camper’s Brutus style with nautical details and custom messages that are common to her work. The casual shoe combines blue and black color blocking with ropelike laces and upcycled sail fabric. The sail is a North Sails V-Series from the same generation of designs used for the Volvo Ocean Race and the America’s Cup. The unisex style retails for $299 and is available online at Camper.com.

April 3, 2019: Teva has announced a partnership with Publish Brand, just in time for the spring season. Highlighted by a limited-edition pair of the Original Universal Premier sandal, the collaboration also includes a tee and a jogger pant — all merging Teva’s outdoor roots with Publish Brand’s military-prep aesthetic. Each piece incorporates bright safety orange that sets the wearer apart from his surroundings and olive green that allows him to camouflage into the scenery. The sandal, which retails for $100, features a black strap with a green border, contrasting against the orange midsole and tri-ring, as well as Teva’s signature hook-and-loop closure and a FloatLite footbed. The head-to-toe line is available online at Teva.com, PublishBrand.com and select retailers.

April 2, 2019: Danner and Helinox are heading for the great outdoors this spring. The outdoor footwear brand and camping equipment label have partnered on a collection that includes a special-edition Helinox camping chair and table made of fabric specifically created for the collaboration. The companion Danner Light boot for men features the same textile plus lace hooks made of DAC aluminum alloy, also used by Helinox. The Danner x Helinox collection is available at Danner.com and retails for $150 for the chair and table, and $390 for the boot.

April 2, 2019: Shoe designer Chloe Gosselin has united with onetime competitor Morgan Lane on a beach-ready collaboration. Their collection of swimwear and sandals debuted today on the brands’ website, priced from $128 to $625. It includes six bathing suits and a flat version of Gosselin’s Delphinium sandals with ruched straps — all featuring a green and white floral print. Gosselin and Morgan Lane designer Morgan Curtis were both nominees for the 2016 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. While they lost the grand prize to Brock Collection, the women were rewarded with a close friendship forged during the program.
