The first preview for The Penguin showed off why Colin Farrell is an Oscar-nominated actor, and now he has teased some details of what to expect about his upcoming Max series.

Speaking with Jonatan Blomberg from MovieZine, Farrell said of The Penguin, "It's dark. It's really dark and heavy".

The teaser showcases this perfectly, with Farrell's ominous voiceover detailing why Oswald is ready to seize the reins of Gotham's dark underbelly.

Not only is it dark, "It's incredibly violent," Farrell says.

The Penguin follows on from Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman, and Farrell explained that the show is about "one man's rise to what he's always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status".

Farrell said, "The death of Carmine Falcone at the end of [The Batman] leaves this vacuum in Gotham to be filled".

"There are various people that are grabbing for that power," Farrell said. "This is Oswald's journey of trying to rise to the top through extraordinary obstacles."

The final note on what people can expect when The Penguin hits Max? Farrell says, "Lauren LeFranc wrote a really twisted eight hours of television."

An exact release date for The Penguin is still to be confirmed, but it is expected on Max this fall.
