Becoming British Vogue editor-in-chief in 2017, Edward Enniful's appointment in itself was groundbreaking – making him the first man and the first black editor to hold the title. But his tenure in the role may see him best known for creating some of the magazine's most surprising and iconic covers *ever*.

We're talking Timothée Chalamet as British Vogue's first solo male cover star, Rihanna's family portraits, those stunning photos of Miley Cyrus, Miriam Margolyes AND Maya Jama each getting a cover (Miriam's a nude cover, at that), and reassembling the supers, AKA Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. And those are only covers from the past year.

Well, the publication's latest cover (and accompanying interview) is no exception, announcing in an Instagram post the September digital cover star is none other than.......... Coleen Rooney. Yep, you read that right. Wagatha Christie herself, and she made sure to dress the part in a Dior beige belted trench coat.

Opening up for the first time about the infamous trial that saw her and Rebekah Vardy head to court (and that has now been turned into a satirical play, no less), Coleen Rooney leant into her tongue-in-cheek moniker with the oversized design giving major Inspector Gadget vibes. Gazing at the camera with her hair swept back into an updo, the tagline, "Wife, mother, detective, superstar" is printed over the top of the image.

To say Coleen is an unexpected choice for the fashion bible is an understatement, with one of Coleen's followers illustrating this point perfectly, commenting on the same image shared from Coleen's own social media account, "Wow 🔥 never bought Vogue in my life but will be ❤️👏".

There were other mixed responses, with comments including "whoever you are, you are so stunning" and "Oh Vogue 🫠" left beneath British Vogue's post. Most people, however, seemed to find it funny – especially the reference to Coleen as a detective – writing, "Detective 😂😂😂", "That cover is gorgeous!!! Bit of Inspector gadget realness 😂" and "Why is this so funny 😭😭😭".

One follower suspected the iconic Instagram account @loveofhuns of being responsible, tagging them in a comment that read, "@loveofhuns Have you infiltrated Vogue? 🕵️♀️".

Now if you'll excuse us, we have some reading to do.
