Cole Sprouse Says the Riverdale Cast Is "Recovering" After Luke Perry's Death

"Luke...would much rather have us laughing and telling stories about his life."

Actor Luke Perry, who played Archie’s father Fred Andrews on Riverdale, passed away on March 4 after suffering a massive stroke. Since then, the cast of the show has publicly grieved their loss, posting tributes to Luke and dedicating all future Riverdale episodes to his memory. The loss of Luke is a tough one — Fred was the moral compass of the show, and Luke has been a TV favorite since his Beverly Hills 90210 days.

Grief is not an easy process, and it sounds like the Riverdale cast is going through it together. Cole Sprouse recently spoke about the loss to James Corden in an interview on The Late Late Show, saying that the cast is “recovering.”

"Luke was one of those guys that I think would much rather have us laughing and telling stories about his life than lamenting it, but he was a good man," Cole said. "He was one of the guys that you never heard a bad word said about him ever in Hollywood, but out of respect for the privacy of his family during this time, I’m just trying to keep it brief." The official statement from Luke’s rep included a request from the family for “privacy in this time of great mourning,” so we understand why Cole would honor their wishes.

Since Luke's passing, many of the cast members have made tributes to Luke on their social media profiles. KJ Apa posted a candid pic of Luke to his Instagram, writing, “Rest in love bro” to honor his onscreen father. Camila Mendes shared some sweet words, writing that Luke “took care of us all.” And Cole posted a beautiful shot of Luke and KJ before Luke’s passing, adding “Love you bud.” Clearly, the actor was loved by everyone in the Riverdale family, and they’re grieving his loss the best way they know how, with happy memories and with support from one another.
